RSV vaccination

The RS virus is a virus that can cause respiratory infections. Most children experience cold symptoms from it, but young babies can sometimes become sicker.

The virus mostly occurs in the autumn and winter months, usually from October to March.

There is an RSV vaccination during pregnancy that can provide protection to the baby in the first months after birth. This vaccination can be given between 24 and 36 weeks of pregnancy.

The RSV vaccination for pregnant women is not routinely offered and must be paid for out of pocket. Therefore, it is a free choice whether you want to take advantage of this.

Since 2025, babies in the Netherlands will be offered a shot against the RSV virus through the National Vaccination Program.

More information about the RSV virus and the vaccination can be found on the website of the RIVM. During the check-ups, we take the time to discuss your questions.
