Hearing Test

In one of the first weeks after birth, your baby will receive a hearing test, if desired. This test checks if the baby can hear well.

Good hearing is important for the development of speech and language.

The hearing test is usually performed at home by a staff member of the youth health care (JGZ). During the test, the baby receives a small plug in the ear that measures soft sounds. Most babies simply sleep through it.

In most cases, the result of the hearing test is clear immediately. If there is reason to check the hearing again, a follow-up test will be scheduled.
